Citizen + Virtual is a student-run Wintersession & IAP Series led by RISD, Brown and MIT STEAM. What happens to society when our virtual existence has become so much a part of our identity? How do we behave on the internet? How do we develop and sustain community through our internet presence? We aim to dissect and redefine the novel term of “digital citizen,” in its ethical, physical, and access-based considerations, exploring how we can be active contributors to the global digital space.

Over the course of the Citizen + Virtual series, the participating students will be asked what pillars of digital citizenship resonate with them as well as how to help fully realize the potential of these ideals through individual and collaborative works ranging from convention defying design concepts to speculative and inquisitive installations. Students get funding for their projects, opportunities to meet fascinating guest speakers, and access to the experience of talented mentors and peers.

Along with the workshop series, we will also be events around RISD & Brown that will be open for the public to attend!
